Black Lightning Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3 Imdb
Co-written by Marv Wolfman, who wrote the original "Crisis on Infinite Earths" comics.
In his first scene, Novu comments that his suit "looks ridiculous." When he approached Laurel in "Arrow: Present Tense (2019)" and requested that she betray Oliver in exchange for the restoration of Earth-2, she deduces who he is because "no human would actually wear something so ridiculous."
Tyler Hoechlin (Earth-38's Clark/Superman) was Katie Cassidy's prom date.
Once The Spectre helped Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) harness the Speed Force once again, the first place he was sent to was familiar -- Queen Consolidated, where he and Oliver first crossed paths all the way back in Arrow Season 2. As The Spectre explained, the only thing that would keep Barry and the other Paragons in the Speed Force would be familiar or emotional memories. This led Barry to Queen Consolidated, where he and Oliver first met. Kate Kane/Batwoman (Ruby Rose) was sent to a Season 3 meeting between Oliver and Ray, which made her realize that she should trust her other heroes more. J'onn J'onnz/Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) was sent to Kara and Oliver's conversation during the "Invasion!"
Ezra Miller's cameo was added after filming for the crossover was wrapped and the cast didn't know about it.
"I'll light the spark, you fan the flame" is one of the many meta-touches this finale had regarding Oliver's role, and especially Arrow's role, in the shaping of the Arrowverse. Arrow did indeed light the spark, and all of these other shows have fanned the flame.
This episode aired on Grant Gustin's 30th birthday.
In the comics, Planet Maltus was the original home planet of the Guardians of the Universe and one of the most over-populated planets in the universe.
This is the first time Ezra Miller's version of Barry Allen is actually called "the Flash".
At Vanishing Point, when Supergirl is seen carrying the tattered cape of Earth-96 Superman, it's a kind of reverse nod to the famous cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths #7, which featured Superman holding Kara's corpse.
In the memory of Sara's death, neither Diggle nor Laurel recognise the Flash; while John had met Barry before that, the crossover where he got to know Barry as the Flash hasn't happened yet.
Oliver/Spectre says that "the Speed Force is the key to saving everyone." Making the Speed Force the key to the multiverse feels like a nod to the fact that the very concept of the DC Multiverse was first introduced in the pages of The Flash, in the classic "Flash of Two Worlds" story which saw Barry Allen meet Jay Garrick for the first time.
The crossover retroactively connects Smallville (2001) to the Arrowverse. On that series, Justin Hartley was the first actor to play a live-action version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.
There's a different President of the United States than either Earth-38's Plastino or the last President we saw for Earth-1 (Susan Brayden).
This episode of the crossover explains the origins of the Monitor and Anti-Monitor.
Lex Luthor abusing someone for not being quite as smart as he is is one of the least charming hallmarks of the character and perfectly on brand. But Ryan insisting on calling Lex "Mr. Luthor" unintentionally plays into classic Lex henchman-speak, notably Otis.
This is the fourth part of a five-part crossover event, begun in Supergirl: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part One (2019), continued in Batwoman: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two (2019), then The Flash: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three (2019) before a hiatus over the holidays. It resumed with this episode and ends in DC's Legends of Tomorrow: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Five (2020), ahead of the fifth season premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016). This is the first crossover to include the Legends since the Crisis on Earth-X event two seasons before this; it is the second to include Batwoman, but the first since the show's premiere (the previous crossover served as a backdoor pilot for the show); it is the second crossover to include The Flash (1990); it is the first time Smallville (2001), Birds of Prey (2002), and Black Lightning (2017), Justice League (2017), and Lucifer (2016) have been confirmed as part of the Arrowverse multiverse; and it is likely the last crossover to include Oliver Queen/the Green Arrow as this is the last season of Arrow. This crossover has also referenced other DC shows and movies, including Batman (1966), Batman (1989), and Titans (2018).
The big battle at the Dawn of Time is also central in the comics. It was there that the Spectre (not the Oliver Queen version) physically took on the Monitor while channeling the powers of other (magical) heroes.
The Speed Force scenes were filmed in 2:35:1 aspect ratio.
As of the 2019/2020 season, this is the biggest Arrowverse crossover event. The shows in this crossover include (in order of the Crossover) Supergirl (2015), Batwoman (2019), The Flash (2014), this show, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016). The show Black Lightning (2017) is also indirectly part of the crossover with the episode Black Lightning: The Book of Resistance: Chapter Four: Earth Crisis (2019).
There are so many ways Oliver "passes the torch" to Barry in this, but his "I've unlocked your potential, Barry" (with no special effects) might be the best. In a meta-sense, he certainly did. It took a Green Arrow TV show to make a The Flash TV series a success. Who could have guessed? Barry does indeed appear to be wearing the outfit he wore in his first appearance in the Arrowverse, in the Arrow season 2 episode "The Scientist." We also get flashbacks to the Elseworlds and Invasion crossovers, as well as several episodes of Arrow.
The name Maltus possibly derives from the demographer and political economist Thomas Robert Malthus, who predicated Earth's overpopulation, a struggle that Maltus itself eventually faced in the comics.
When Barry is travelling through the Speed Force looking for John, Sara and Kate in memories of past events, he finds Sara in the memories around her death in Arrow Season 3. Since this event took place before Team Arrow was familiar with him as The Flash, Diggle and Laurel react with surprise and suspicion when he appears, prompting Barry to say, "Oh boy". This is a reference to Quantum Leap, a show also featuring time travel, in which the protagonist Sam Beckett would often utter this same phrase.
Several callbacks as the Speed Force brings the heroes to important points of time in their lives. *Oliver and Barry meet again back where they first met in The Scientist. *Kate stumbles upon Oliver and Ray arguing in suicidal Tendencies. *J'onn meets Kara and Oliver shortly before the final battle against the Dominators in Invasion *Barry first meets Clark, Lois and Oliver shortly after defeating Deegan in Elseworlds part 3 and then Diggle and Laurel shortly after Sara's death in Sara.
Speaking on the Fake Nerd Podcast, Marc Guggenheim talked about the challenges of getting access to the DCEU, and what led to Miller's Crisis on Infinite Earths appearance becoming a reality: "There were certain things that we knew were not touchable and the cinematic universe fell into that category. The nice thing about doing something for eight years is you're there for all the changes. You're there for the personnel changes, and you're there for the philosophical changes and the changes in policy, and this just happened to be one of those situations where people changed their minds. I was so glad that they did, even though the change of mind did come after we were wrapped on the whole crossover. So it came very late, but as they say, better late than never. I did feel like the cinematic universe was the one that got away, if you were to ask me - short of bringing Christopher Reeve back to life - what would you most want to do? I would have said include the cinematic universe. I still can't believe that we were able to do that. The funny thing is, once we got the approval, it came together almost easier than any other cameo. I mean, certainly, there were cameos that were a lot harder to pull off, that required a lot more scheduling creativity or financial creativity or logistical creativity, you name it! This sort of all came together really nice. It was a series of phone calls and some time at the keyboard writing a scene and bing, bang, boom, we just got it done."
In Sara's memory with Diggle and Laurel shortly after Sara's death, noticeable is the stab wound on Laurel's stomach - a reference to her death in S4 Eleven Fifty-Nine (2016).
Novu refers to Lex as "the hairless one"; Novu himself only has a few strips of hair on his head, barely more than Lex.
Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) was sent to her death at the start of Arrow Season 3, where Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and John Diggle (David Ramsey) were mourning her immediate death. Diggle encouraged Laurel to carry on her sister's legacy as the Black Canary -- just as Barry literally ran through the room. Barry explained his awkward situation, and argued that he needed to get Sara from this Speed Force memory and take her back to safety. He then brought her back to life, and they left Laurel and Diggle in the bunker.
In expanded scenes from previous crossovers, this is the first appearance of Kara's skirted superhero suit since "Supergirl: The Quest for Peace (2019)", Supergirl (2015)'s fourth-season finale; her new skirtless suit debuted in "Supergirl: Event Horizon (2019)", the fifth-season premiere.
Oliver Queen was also possessed by The Spectre in DC Universe Online (2011) video game.
Order for the crossover episodes is Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, then DCs Legends of Tomorrow.
